The very first software package containing the Wind Atlas Analysis and Application Program (WAsP) was shipped to a German university in the summer of 1987 – thirty years ago. Since then, WAsP has been used to estimate wind resources and wind farm energy yields in more than 120 countries and territories around the world.
A validation of the Global Wind Atlas using WAsP was recently presented at the WindEurope Resource Assessment workshop in Edinburg.
DTU Wind Energy is offering a flexible and affordable WAsP training course. The course is designed to be cost-effective and to maximise the learning outcome versus resources spent. The first half years experiences have been very positive.
The European Wind Atlas has now been made available for download. The main publication is in English, but editions in German, French, Spanish and Italian are available too. The publications may be downloaded as PDF files; the accompanying data as a ZIP archive. Download is free of charge.
The results of the fourth European Wind Energy Association Comparison of Resource and Energy Yield Assessment Procedures (CREYAP) benchmark exercise were recently presented by DTU Wind Energy at the EWEA Technology Workshop: Resource Assessment 2015, in Helsinki, Finland.
