On Tuesday 18 December 2018, PhD student Ronja Maja Malinowski from Center for Hyperpolarization in Magnetic Resonance succesfully defended her PhD on dDNP as a method to assess altered cellular metabolism in vitro.

Examiners at the defence were Professor Patrick Giraudeau, Université de Nantes, Researcher Renuka Sriram from University of California San Francisco, with Senior Researcher Magnus Karlsson from DTU Elektro.

The defence took a little over two hours. It ended with a unanimous recommendation from the examiners' committee that the PhD degree should be conferred on Ronja Malinowski for scientific work of high quality.

Ronja's PhD project has focused on scientific investigations and method developments in the field of dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (dDNP). She has worked with stable-isotope resolved analysis of metabolites by dDNP, developed a bioreactor for dDNP-NMR as well as three novel bioprobes for in vivo and in vitro applications of dDNP (cancer and diabetes). For more information on her project, please visit http://www.hypermag.dtu.dk/research/phd-projects/ronja-malinowski.

Ronja's research has been supported by Innovation Fund Denmark. Her work has mainly been carried out from DTU's HYPERMAG Center of Excellence but also included collaborations with Copenhagen University and an extended research secondment at National Institutes of Health in the US, working with Professor Murali Cherukuri's group.

Supervisors were Professor Jan Henrik Ardenkjær-Larsen, Associate Professor Pernille Rose Jensen, and Professor Jens Ø. Duus.

A final version of the PhD thesis will be available for download from DTU Orbit shortly, where Ronja's published work is already available: http://orbit.dtu.dk/en/persons/ronja-maja-malinowski(30b6c771-8ec0-4485-a831-5fb2b3b2f500).html.
