23 November 2017 Professor Jan Henrik Ardenkjær-Larsen will give a talk to DTU alumni together with collaboration partner Professor, MD Andreas Kjær from Copenhagen University and Rigshospitalet

It is crucial for survival rates to enable doctors to monitor directly the effect of treatment on cancer patients and tailor treatment accordingly. The clock is ticking and side effects are too severe to waste precious time on cancer treatment with no impact on the patient at hand.

Hyperpolarized Magnetic Resonance (MR) is a new medical imaging method with the potential of revolutionizing diagnostic radiology. It may allow doctors to study non-invasively the biochemical processes in the cells, and thereby monitor tumor development and determine the individual patient’s response to the treatment. 

Professor and Center Leader Jan Henrik Ardenkjær-Larsen will introduce you to hyperpolarized Metabolic MR imaging and its clinical translation. 

Collaboration partner, Professor, MD Andreas Kjær from Copenhagen University and Rigshospitalet will present HyperPET/MR, a new concept of hybrid molecular imaging in cancer using simultaneous Positron-emission tomography (PET) and hyperpolarized MR. The method is possible through the co-location of the hospital’s PET/MR scanner with a polarizer, the device for polarizing biomolecules, invented by Professor Ardenkjær-Larsen.

Professor, PhD Jan Henrik Ardenkjær-Larsen leads Center for Hyperpolarization in Magnetic Resonance (HYPERMAG) and is a group leader of DTU Electrical Engineering’s Center for Magnetic Resonance.

Professor, MD Andreas Kjær is Professor at Copenhagen University and Chief Physician at Rigshospitalet, Department of Clinical Physiology, Nuclear Medicine and PET.

Professor Ardenkjær-Larsen and Professor Kjær are collaborating on research projects funded by Independent Research Fund Denmark (Early detection of response to treatment in cancer by hyperpolarized Metabolic MR) and Innovation Fund Denmark (HyperPET/MR). 

Professor Ardenkjær-Larsen’s HYPERMAG Center of Excellence is funded by Danish National Research Foundation.
