Applications - biology, chemistry and medicine

At HYPERMAG we aim at developing dissolution Dynamic Nuclear Polarization applications that exploit the unique ability to observe transient states in the crossings between chemistry, biochemistry and biology

The dDNP approach provides unique metabolic data from studying cellular metabolism in the intact living cell. This opens up new ways for observing cellular intermediates in enzyme-catalyzed reactions and entire metabolic pathways. It allows mechanistic insight into metabolic responses to exogenous factors such as nutrition, drugs and toxic compounds.

Transient states are not only studied in biological systems. The scope of the method is also used for chemical reactions where empirical data for reaction kinetics involving intermediates is a Holy Grail in understanding and optimizing chemical reaction.

Our laboratories provide an optimal setting for studying transient states in both chemistry and biology due to a special conjoined design that allows access to all laboratories without leaving laboratory area.

We aim at generating new, reliable and unbiased insight into the short life of transient reaction states. This insight is achieved with rapid functional assays on the minutes time-scale.
